2+ ideas for bagels
I often buy fresh bread wherever I can find it, (when I don't make it myself, of course) and one of these days I got some delicious fresh bagels. Question, how to make boring bagels un-boring? See for yourself...
What we have here are 2 sesame seed bagels, but if you prefer poppy seed bagels, baguette or even a ciabatta bread, I have the perfect topping for you! My favorite fresh bread snack that I can't too often afford to indulge, and a cheaper variation as well.
- 2 fresh bagels (or a few slices of your favorite fresh bread - ciabatta, baguette, ...)
- cream cheese (with herbs)
- sliced ham
This works with any fresh bread really. (forget the white sliced bread! you gotta feel the crunch and freshness of the dough)
How to do it:
You slice the bagels in half, or cut a couple of slices of your favorite fresh bread, spread some butter on them, place some thin prosciutto strips (just tear them up casually), and sprinkle some good parmesan cheese on top (alternatively, if you have a block of parmesan, grate some curls with a vegetable peeler for some nice strips). There you go!
As an alternative, you can spread cream cheese (I used my favorite herb cream cheese) on the bagels and top it with some light ham slices (or nothing at all).
If you want to take this to the next level, lightly toast the bagel slices before you spread the butter and all the other good stuff. Enjoy!
P.S. These would be great as dinner party appetizers, or as part of a spread for brunch!
-add some sliced cherry tomatoes on top!
-top the tomatoes with some herb-infused olive oil if you're feeling fancy!
-try an omelet filling with the cream cheese one!
